Dating back to 433-453 A.D., the honeymoon is believed to stem from an old Northern Europe custom. Lasting 1 month or 1 “moon”, newlyweds would retreat to a secluded location and drink honeyed wine each night. The bittersweet wine was believed to bring the new couple good luck and was thought to have aphrodisiacal properties.
